Padel Maldives: pick your resort, your court and your month

Pick a resort with a court, a coach and some shade, then go in the sunny months between November and April.

theKlub

In short

A padel Maldives trip starts with the resort, because the court you book is the court you play all week. Patina Maldives, Fari Islands, One&Only Reethi Rah, Kuredu, Jawakara and Le Méridien Maldives all state padel courts. Go between November and April, when Visit Maldives says the Northeast monsoon is generally sunny.

At Kuredu the floodlit courts open at 7:00 and close at 23:00, so the first set can start before breakfast and the last one finish under the lights after dinner. At Le Méridien the court looks out over the turquoise lagoon. Padel in the Maldives is a resort game: you pick an island, take a boat or a seaplane to it, and its court, its coach and its shade are yours for the week, along with whoever else turns up with a racket.

Which Maldives resorts have padel courts?

At least five Maldives resorts say on their own pages or in their own announcements that they have padel courts. Kuredu Island Resort & Spa opened the country's first padel court in 2018, followed by its first glass court, and keeps its floodlit courts open from 7:00 to 23:00. Jawakara Islands Maldives has three padel courts, two of them covered, with coaching and tournaments run by LUX Tennis, a tennis management company. Patina Maldives, Fari Islands, 45 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport, has a court that regularly hosts visiting tennis and padel names for coaching and guest matches with LUX Tennis. One&Only Reethi Rah has one padel court beside two floodlit tennis courts, with resident LUX Tennis professionals for private lessons. Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa, on Thilamaafushi in Lhaviyani Atoll, opened its court to all guests, with premium equipment on site and professional coaching sessions.

New to the game? Padel mixes tennis and squash on a smaller, enclosed court, and the walls are part of play: as Kuredu describes it, the ball can rebound off them and the rally carries on. A glass court uses glass panels for those walls, so you can still see out to the palms and the sea. Here is who each resort suits.

  • Patina Maldives, Fari Islands: a pair who want a coach and the chance of a match against a visiting name, with a short boat ride from the airport. Guests rate it 9.7 out of 10 across 51 reviews.
  • One&Only Reethi Rah: a player who wants private lessons with a resident professional, and a tennis court under floodlights for the days you swap rackets. Guests rate it 9.6 out of 10 across 176 reviews.
  • Kuredu Island Resort & Spa: players who want a long day on court, from 7:00 to 23:00, at the resort that brought padel to the Maldives.
  • Jawakara Islands Maldives: a group of friends who want three courts to choose from, shade at midday and a tournament to end the week.
  • Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa: a first-timer who would rather arrive without a racket and start with a lesson.

Beat the heat: covered courts and floodlit evenings

Play early, play late or play under a roof, because midday on an open court is the hardest hour of a Maldives day. Visit Maldives, the country's tourism board, gives a year-round average high of 31.5°C and an average low of 26.4°C, so the evening is warm too, just without the sun on your back. Coastal courts can also catch strong winds, especially in the afternoon, which turns a lob into a lottery.

Two kinds of court help. Jawakara Islands Maldives has two covered padel courts, which Jawakara says ensure uninterrupted play through the day: the pick for a group that wants a match after lunch. Kuredu's floodlit courts open from 7:00 to 23:00: the pick for players who like a set before breakfast and an after-dinner rematch. One&Only Reethi Rah's release names floodlights for its tennis courts, not its padel court, and the pages of Patina and Le Méridien do not mention lights, so ask before you plan an evening game: some courts in the Maldives have no lighting, which limits play to daylight.

When is the best time to play padel in the Maldives?

Book between November and April. Visit Maldives says the Northeast monsoon from November to April is generally sunny, and the Southwest monsoon from May to October brings rain. Patina's own guide to the weather adds that no season is entirely dry, but a shower usually lasts a couple of hours rather than days, which leaves time to get back on court.

theKlub's climate table below shows each month's average daily high and low, and the days with at least 1 mm of rain, from Open-Meteo data for 2016 to 2025, measured at a single point for the Maldives. February is the driest month in it, with 7.4 rain days, then March at 11.5 and January at 12.7. May is the wettest, at 24.0. The highs barely move all year, between 27.8°C and 29.1°C.

October28.2 °C26.4 °C19.8
November28.0 °C26.2 °C20.1
December28.0 °C26.3 °C18.3

Read together, January to March is the surest window for outdoor padel. November, December and April sit inside the sunny monsoon but carry more rain days in our table, so a covered court earns its keep then.

For a coached week in the season, Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa runs The Maldives Padel Retreat from 13 to 23 December 2026, led by Juani Mieres, a former world number one. The programme has daily small-group clinics, personalised coaching, match play and friendly competition: a good fit for a player who wants to come home with a sharper game and a few new partners to play with.

How do you get to a padel resort in the Maldives?

By speedboat, seaplane or domestic flight from Velana International Airport, depending on how far the resort is. Visit Maldives says speedboat is the norm for resorts close to the airport and seaplane or domestic flight covers the rest; several daily flights link Velana to the country's 12 domestic and international airports, and scheduled ferries run from Male to many of the atolls.

Patina Maldives, Fari Islands is about 45 minutes by speedboat, and the resort arranges every arrival and departure itself: transfers booked through anyone else are not accepted. The Le Méridien retreat includes return seaplane transfers to Lhaviyani Atoll. For the other resorts, ask how you will arrive when you book.

Plan to play where you sleep. Every move between islands is a boat or a flight, so pick the resort for its court and its coach first, and the villa second. The stays theKlub has picked for padel players are on our padel in Maldives page.

Pack for the court: rackets, shoes and lessons

Pack court shoes, decide on your racket, then book your coach before you fly. Le Méridien provides premium equipment on site, and many resorts lend rackets and balls, but confirm it before you travel: there is no pro shop to fall back on. Bring shoes made for artificial turf. If you play with a racket you know well, bring your own: a borrowed one with a different weight and balance takes a set or two to trust.

Coaching is where these resorts differ. Patina, One&Only Reethi Rah and Jawakara run their programmes with LUX Tennis, from private lessons to group sessions and, at Jawakara, tournaments. Le Méridien offers professional coaching sessions. In the sunny months, book courts and lessons ahead. For a coached week closer to home, read our padel academy partnership guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can beginners play padel in the Maldives?

Yes. Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa describes padel as easy to learn and offers professional coaching with equipment on site. Jawakara's LUX Tennis programme takes all ages and levels, with one-to-one coaching and group sessions, and Kuredu says the smaller court makes the game accessible for every skill level.

Is padel the same as tennis?

No. Padel combines tennis and squash on a smaller, enclosed court, and the walls are in play: the ball can rebound off them and the rally continues. Kuredu calls it a fun, fast-paced alternative to tennis, and says its smaller court makes it accessible for all skill levels.

When did padel arrive in the Maldives?

Kuredu Island Resort & Spa says it opened the country's first padel court in 2018, followed by the first glass padel court. Patina, One&Only Reethi Rah, Jawakara and Le Méridien have since added courts and coaching, several of them with LUX Tennis.

Are there padel retreats or events in the Maldives?

Yes. Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa runs The Maldives Padel Retreat from 13 to 23 December 2026, led by former world number one Juani Mieres, with daily small-group clinics and match play. Patina's court regularly hosts visiting tennis and padel names, and Jawakara's programme includes tournaments.

The Maldives rewards the player who plans around the sun: a covered court or floodlights, a coach booked before you land, and a week between November and April. For courts beyond the atolls, the rest of the map is on padel holidays with theKlub. Before you book, email your chosen resort and ask three things: is the padel court covered or lit, who coaches, and are rackets on site.
