In short
For yoga in Marrakech, go between September and April, when the heat eases and most retreats run. Stay in a medina riad to practise on a rooftop and walk to the souks, in the palm grove for space and a studio at your hotel, or in the Atlas foothills for mountain air and guided walks.
The yoga Marrakech does best happens outdoors. Think riad rooftops above the city's skyline, garden classes in the shade of olive trees, and kasbah terraces that face the snowy peaks of the Atlas. Practise at sunrise or sunset and the light does half the work. What shapes the week is simpler than any style or teacher. It is the month you go, and where you wake up: the old city, the palm grove or the mountains.
When is the best time for yoga in Marrakech?
September to April is the best time for yoga in Marrakech. Most retreats run from October to April, the cooler months that are also the busiest. Summer is the hard part. July and August both average highs of 38.6 °C, so outdoor practice works only early in the morning or late in the evening.
The table below is theKlub's month-by-month climate for Marrakech, averaged from Open-Meteo data for 2016 to 2025: the average daily high and low, and the days with 1 mm or more of rain.
| Month | High | Low | Rain or snow days |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 20.2 °C | 5.8 °C | 3.2 |
| February | 21.8 °C | 7.4 °C | 5.6 |
| March | 23.1 °C | 9.2 °C | 7.1 |
| April | 26.3 °C | 12.0 °C | 5.4 |
| May | 30.4 °C | 15.1 °C | 3.6 |
| June | 33.6 °C | 17.9 °C | 0.7 |
| July | 38.6 °C | 21.2 °C | 0.4 |
| August | 38.6 °C | 21.9 °C | 1.0 |
| September | 33.5 °C | 18.8 °C | 1.3 |
| October | 30.1 °C | 15.7 °C | 2.9 |
| November | 24.2 °C | 10.5 °C | 4.4 |
| December | 20.4 °C | 7.1 °C | 5.8 |
The best months for yoga in Marrakech are October, November, March and April. October averages a high of 30.1 °C and a low of 15.7 °C, with only 2.9 wet days: warm enough for a rooftop class at dawn and another at sunset. November cools to 24.2 °C by day, with 4.4 wet days. December and January are the mildest by day, at 20.4 °C and 20.2 °C. Nights drop to 7.1 °C and 5.8 °C, so an early class outdoors needs a warm layer. March and April climb to 23.1 °C and 26.3 °C. March is the wettest month, with 7.1 days of rain. September is still hot at 33.5 °C, and May reaches 30.4 °C. A first retreat in Marrakech sits best in autumn or spring. A winter week suits anyone happy to practise indoors on the coolest mornings.
Check the calendar for Ramadan too. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) says in its Morocco travel advice that the holy month next starts in February 2027, with dates that vary by year. During the fast, eating, drinking or smoking in public in the daytime may cause offence. Shops and restaurants may change their hours, and fasting brings tiredness in the late afternoon and early evening. Hotels serving food in fasting hours may seat you apart from Muslim guests, behind screens. Ask your riad or retreat how its meals and class times change before you book a February week.
Where should you stay for yoga in Marrakech?
Stay in the medina for classes and souks on foot, and in the palm grove for space, gardens and a studio at your hotel. The choice comes down to the hours between classes.
The medina: a rooftop riad by Bab Doukkala
The medina is Marrakech's old city: narrow winding lanes, crowded souks and Jemaa el-Fnaa square. The Flow Yoga Studio sits inside it, at Riad Be Marrakech near Bab Doukkala, a riad rated 9.3 out of 10 from 260 reviews. Nicole and Mo, the Swiss and Moroccan couple who run the riad, say it has drawn yogis, teachers and students from all over the world. They host retreats led by international and local teachers. Imane, the studio manager and lead teacher, finished her first 200-hour teacher training in 2019. Every class needs a reservation.
The medina suits a first trip and a solo yogi who wants a class each morning and the city each afternoon. It suits friends who want tagine and couscous within walking distance, too. A rest day there means the souks, the Marrakech Museum or an afternoon by a riad pool. Expect uneven cobbles underfoot and heavy traffic in the busy streets around the old city.
The palm grove: a Yoga Shala among the trees
Marrakech's palm grove, the Palmeraie, trades the medina's noise for gardens and room to breathe. Tigmiza Boutique Hotel & Spa, rated 9.4 out of 10 from 777 reviews, has built its Yoga Shala there (shala means home in Sanskrit, as the hotel notes). It is a bright, fully equipped room for modern postural yoga, with a canteen for yogis serving a simple, healthy menu.

Its teachers run Vinyasa (flowing sequences linked to the breath), Ashtanga (a set sequence practised in the same order each time), Yin (long, quiet holds) and Hatha, plus pranayama, the breathing practice, and guided meditation. The Shala opens Tuesday to Sunday, 08:30 to 19:30. The palm grove suits couples and friends who want gardens and a daily class in one place. It suits anyone who sleeps better away from the bustle of the souks, too.
Head for the hills: yoga in the Atlas foothills
Head into the foothills when you want mountain air, walks between classes and a view of snow instead of rooftops. Hiking in the nearby Atlas Mountains pairs well with a yoga week. Two kasbahs, the traditional earth-built fortress houses, make it easy.
Ourika valley: Kasbah Bab Ourika
Kasbah Bab Ourika stands on a hilltop at the head of the Ourika valley, 45 minutes from Marrakech's international airport. It looks down to the river and groves of olives, oranges and lemons, and up to snowy peaks. It is built mainly of pisé, the rammed earth of traditional Berber building. Yoga and pilates run in its spa's fitness club, with personal trainers on hand. The kasbah has 42 rooms, 11 of them in the Retreat, a separate building across 3 levels with wide mountain and valley views. It suits a group of friends, a teacher bringing students, or a couple who want quiet under an hour from the city.
Imlil: Kasbah du Toubkal
Kasbah du Toubkal sits on a rock outcrop above the village of Imlil in the High Atlas, inside Toubkal National Park and below Jbel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. It is 90 minutes from Marrakech, and the last stretch is a 15 minute walk or a mule ride from the village. Its yoga page describes a past seven-night retreat. Each full day had two yoga and mindfulness classes: a longer morning practice with meditation and breathing, then a guided walk and gentle yoga before dinner. One day was left free.
The Kasbah has an indoor yoga space and an outdoor one facing the mountains. Mats, blocks, belts, blankets and cushions are provided, and its own hammam, the traditional steam bath, waits after class. The retreat was open to all levels. Imlil suits hikers who practise and anyone ready to switch off, so ask the Kasbah which yoga weeks run in your season.
Agafay: a night among the rocky dunes
The Agafay desert lies thirty minutes from Marrakech, according to Visit Morocco, the Moroccan National Tourist Office's site. It offers rocky dunes, nights beneath the stars or in a bivouac (a desert camp), a small oasis and Amazigh villages where visitors are offered tea. Treat it as a night out from your yoga base rather than the base itself.
What should you wear and pack for yoga in Marrakech?
Pack loose clothes that cover you for the streets, a warm layer for winter mornings, and your own mat unless your venue lends one.
- Cover up between classes. The FCDO suggests women consider loose clothing that covers the arms, legs and chest, and asks everyone to follow local dress codes, which matter more during Ramadan.
- Bring a layer. December and January nights average 7.1 °C and 5.8 °C, cold for a dawn class on a roof.
- Check the props. Kasbah du Toubkal provides mats, blocks, belts, blankets and cushions, but not every venue in Marrakech offers mats.
- Wear proper shoes in the medina. The cobbles are uneven, and the lanes are busy.
- Plan around the sun. In the hot months, pick early morning or late evening classes.
How do you get to Marrakech for a yoga retreat?
Fly into Marrakech-Menara airport: Visit Morocco puts London Gatwick to Marrakech at 3 h 9 min and 2,264 km. Agafay is thirty minutes from the city and Kasbah Bab Ourika 45 minutes from the airport. Kasbah du Toubkal is 90 minutes away, plus the 15 minute walk up from Imlil.
British citizens can visit Morocco without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism, according to the FCDO's entry requirements. Your passport needs an expiry date at least 3 months after the day you arrive. Keep it in good condition: the Moroccan authorities have refused entry to some travellers with damaged passports. Check that it is stamped when you enter, because some travellers without an entry stamp have had trouble leaving.
Our yoga in Marrakech page brings together the yoga-friendly hotels we rate in the city, so you can weigh a medina riad against a palm grove hotel before you choose.
Frequently asked questions
Can beginners do yoga in Marrakech?
Yes. Beginners do well in gentle Hatha classes in quiet riads, and those with some experience often move on to Vinyasa sessions in outdoor gardens. Kasbah du Toubkal describes its yoga retreat classes as suitable for all levels, beginners included, and advanced yogis can look for intensive workshops or retreats that push their practice.
Can solo travellers join yoga classes in Marrakech?
Yes. Many sessions in Marrakech take drop-ins, so a solo traveller can join a group class on the first morning, and meeting other yogis is common at the popular outdoor venues. A retreat is the easiest way to arrive alone and practise with the same group all week.
Do you need to book yoga classes in Marrakech in advance?
Often, yes. Retreats can fill quickly in the October to April season, and booking ahead secures a place at popular outdoor sessions. The Flow Yoga Studio at Riad Be Marrakech takes classes by reservation only, so book before you turn up at the riad door.
Which yoga styles can you practise in Marrakech?
Marrakech's studios and riads teach a range of styles, including Hatha and Vinyasa. Tigmiza's Yoga Shala in the palm grove adds Ashtanga and Yin, with pranayama and guided meditation, and mountain retreats such as Kasbah du Toubkal pair yoga with mindfulness, meditation and breathing practice.

Marrakech rewards a little planning. Pick the month first, because the heat decides how much of your yoga happens outside. Then choose the base that suits the hours between classes: the souks, the pool or the trail. Browse yoga holidays with theKlub for more places to practise.
