What does it take to ride the Mallorca 312 in 2027?

Plan the 2027 ride around its three routes, the early climbs, the cut-offs and a bed near the start.

Published

In short

The Mallorca 312 is a gran fondo, a long timed ride on roads closed to traffic, starting and finishing in Playa de Muro on Saturday 24 April 2027. Riders choose 312, 226 or 167 km and can switch on the road. Nearly all the climbing, over Coll de Femenia and Puig Major, comes in the first 150 km.

At 06:30 the first riders roll out of Playa de Muro, and by 07:00 the last of 8,500 are away, heading for the Serra de Tramuntana on roads closed to traffic. The mountains come first: Femenia, the long road past the Gorg Blau reservoir, the drop to Sóller and the coast road south. Then the island flattens out, the groups form, and the riders on the full distance face the road to Artà and back before the finish closes at 20:40.

What is the Mallorca 312, and when is the 2027 ride?

The Mallorca 312 OK Mobility is a gran fondo on closed roads, run each spring from Playa de Muro. The resort sits on the north-east coast of Mallorca, between Port d'Alcúdia and Can Picafort. The 2027 ride, the event's XVII edition, is on Saturday 24 April 2027. The official start is at 06:30, with the last riders expected over the line by 07:00. All three routes leave together, 312 km, 226 km and 167 km, and each finishes back in Playa de Muro. The finish closes at 17:00 for the 167 km and 226 km routes and at 20:40 for the 312 km, with intermediate cut-offs along the way. The field is 8,500 riders. Anyone aged 18 or over can enter, or 15 and over with written consent from a parent or guardian. The first edition, in June 2010, had 199 riders, most of them from Mallorca or mainland Spain.

Which distance should you ride: 312, 226 or 167?

Ride the 167 for a first big day in the mountains and the 226 for the coast road to Andratx. Save the 312 for when very long training rides are behind you.

How do the three routes differ?

All three leave Playa de Muro together. The 167 km is a loop of the Serra de Tramuntana, the island's mountain range, between Port de Pollença and Esporles. The 226 km adds the Ma-10 coast road through Banyalbufar to Andratx, and Epic Road Rides think the middle route gives the most scenery per kilometre. The 312 km adds a long eastern loop out to Artà on top of that, and carries around 5,000 m of climbing.

Most riders on the full distance are out for 10 to 14 hours, so the 312 is a day built on endurance more than climbing. The routes have stayed much the same from year to year, but the organiser can change the course, the start time and the cut-offs, so plan from the 2027 map once it is published.

Can you change distance once you are riding?

Yes, and that takes some of the pressure off the choice. You enter the event, not a route. You can switch between the 312, 226 and 167 km during the ride without telling the organiser, as long as you are inside the cut-offs. The splits are signposted on the road. The catch is the clock. The finish closes at 17:00 for the two shorter routes and at 20:40 for the 312, and the intermediate cut-offs set a minimum average speed. A rider who falls behind it, or is passed by the end-of-event vehicle, is out of the event. From there it is the broom wagon, or riding on alone on roads open to traffic again. For a first attempt, start with the 312 in mind and decide at the split, with honest legs, which way to turn. The rider information page carries the latest timings.

Where do the climbs come on the Mallorca 312?

Almost all the climbing comes in the first 150 km, in the Serra de Tramuntana. After that the course rolls across the plain in the middle of the island.

What are the big climbs in the Tramuntana?

In 2025 the ride left Playa de Muro for Alcúdia, Port de Pollença and Pollença, then turned onto the Ma-10 into the mountains. The first climb is the Coll de Femenia from Pollença: 9 km at an average of 5 per cent, 446 m of ascent and 5 hairpins, topping out at 537 m. With thousands of riders around you, ride it at your own pace. The road runs on past Coll de sa Batalla, by the Lluc petrol station. From the Gorg Blau reservoir it climbs again, 4.9 km at 5.6 per cent to 885 m on the flank of Puig Major, with one 100 m stretch at 13.3 per cent. Next comes the long descent of Puig Major to Sóller, and the Ma-10 on to Valldemossa. The 167 km turns inland for Esporles. The longer routes stay on the coast to Andratx, then come back through Puigpunyent to Esporles.

What comes after the mountains?

The second half is the plain, and it is where the day gets long. From Esporles the route runs through Santa Maria to Campanet, and from there the 167 km and 226 km riders head for the finish at Playa de Muro. The 312 km carries on through Sa Pobla and Santa Margalida to Petra and Ariany. Then it heads out to Artà before turning back to Playa de Muro. There are no big climbs left after halfway, but the small roads keep rising and falling. Find a group that rides at your pace and share the work. Riders know Petra for its square, where a rest day coffee comes with almond cake and café con leche. On 312 day the route runs close by. In 2025 the road from Artà back to Playa de Muro stayed closed to traffic in that direction until 20:50.

How do you get an entry for 2027 now it has sold out?

Through the waiting list, the organiser's Marketplace or a tour operator's package. All 8,500 places for 2027 went within minutes of going on sale at 11:00 on a Tuesday. Balearic residents who rode either of the previous two editions had a priority window from 29 September, before the general sale. If you missed the sale, join the official waiting list through the organiser's own channels. From 1 December 2026 to 31 March 2027, the Marketplace on the organiser's website releases the entries that registered riders cancel. Request one and an email arrives with a link. You then have 30 minutes to complete the registration. Entries reappear as riders cancel, so the chance comes in waves through the winter. Some tour operators also sell packages with guaranteed entry. Whichever way you get in, you collect your bib yourself, in person, in Playa de Muro.

Train the Tramuntana in the months before April

Train for a very long day first and the climbs second, then use a spring week on Mallorca to ride the mountains before the event.

How should you train at home?

Roadman Cycling's 16-week plan for the 312 is a useful frame. It builds to 12 to 15 hours a week, with at least three back-to-back long weekends and one 8-hour ride in your legs before the day. Its coach's view is that the Tramuntana climbs are the easy part, and the plain after kilometre 200 is where riders without endurance training crack. So ride the climbs at high zone 2, the steady endurance pace where you can still talk in short sentences, and save the effort for the flat. Fuelling matters as much as power: the plan has riders eating 80 to 100 g of carbohydrate an hour from the start, and practising it on long rides, never for the first time on the day. Count back 16 weeks from 24 April and the block starts in early January. Ride some of those long weekends in a group, to practise sitting in and sharing turns.

When should you train on the island?

The best months to ride on Mallorca are March to May. In January and February professional teams use the island as a pre-season base, and the Challenge Ciclista Mallorca draws WorldTour teams to its one-day trophies. The table below shows our month-by-month averages for 2016 to 2025: the daily high and low, and the days with rain. January averages 15.0 °C by day and 7.0 °C at night. March averages 17.6 °C and 9.0 °C, and April 20.1 °C and 10.8 °C with 7.7 wet days. A March week puts Femenia and Puig Major in your legs a few degrees cooler than the ride itself.

Use that week to ride the 312's opening climbs, then add Sa Calobra, with its 26 hairpin bends and 360-degree turn, for a harder day. Our climb-by-climb guide to the best cycling routes in Mallorca has those roads and the rest of the island's big climbs.

Where should you stay for the start at Playa de Muro?

Stay in or close to Playa de Muro, because the start is at 06:30 and the roads around it close from 05:00.

Why stay close to the start?

Playa de Muro is both start and finish, 40 minutes by car from Palma airport. In 2025 the start area closed to traffic from 05:00 to 07:30, and the road from Playa de Muro to Pollença from 06:00. Arriving by car on the morning is a gamble. Bibs are collected in person at the Mallorca 312 Expo, Avenida s'Albufera 33, on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 April from 09:00 to 21:00. Nobody else can collect yours. Plan to land by Friday at the latest, collect your bib, fit your race number and get an early night. The finish is in the same place, which matters after a day of up to 312 km: a short roll to a shower and a bed beats a drive across the island. A group of friends riding together can share one base and an early breakfast, and swap stories over the pasta party afterwards.

Which hotels suit the Mallorca 312?

For the start, look north along the coast. The Forum Boutique Hotel & Spa in Alcudia is adults only and sits on the road the ride takes towards Pollença. Its guest rating is 10.0 out of 10 from 649 reviews, and it suits riders who want to be close and rested. The Hotel Cala Sant Vicenç, also adults only and rated 9.3 from 272 reviews, is in Pollença, where the Coll de Femenia climb starts, so you can ride the first climb in the days before; it suits a couple who want a quieter base. For a training week rather than the race weekend, the Ynaira hotel & Spa in Ariany, rated 10.0 from 811 reviews, is inland, on the quiet plain the 312 crosses late in the day. Compare these and our other rated stays on the cycling in Mallorca page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the Mallorca 312 take to ride?

Most riders on the full 312 km are out for 10 to 14 hours. The start is at 06:30 and the finish closes at 20:40 for the 312, and at 17:00 for the 226 km and 167 km routes, with intermediate cut-offs that set a minimum average speed along the way.

What happens if you miss a cut-off or have to stop?

If you abandon within the time limit, a bus and a support vehicle carry you and your bike to the finish. If you fall behind the minimum pace, or the end-of-event vehicle passes you, you are out of the event: take the broom wagon, or ride on alone on roads open to traffic.

Can someone else collect your Mallorca 312 bib?

No. Riders collect their own bib at the Mallorca 312 Expo on Avenida s'Albufera 33 in Playa de Muro, on Thursday 22 or Friday 23 April between 09:00 and 21:00. Someone else can pick up your jersey and extras, but only with the signed authorisation form from the organiser's information page.

Is there mechanical help on the Mallorca 312 route?

Yes. Mechanics work at the refreshment stations and fix breakdowns that can be repaired there, and a support vehicle follows the ride. The route map on the organiser's website marks the refreshment stations and mechanical points. Carry the spares and tools you would take on any long ride in the mountains.

The Mallorca 312 rewards the rider who arrives with an 8-hour ride done, a fuelling plan practised and a bed near Playa de Muro. The climbs are famous, but the day is decided on the plain, in a group, with food in your pockets. For a training week in March, start with our guide to planning a cycling holiday in Mallorca or browse cycling holidays with theKlub. If you are still without an entry, set a reminder for 1 December, when the Marketplace opens.
